Three teams play at Greyhound Invitational

Carmel, Guerin Catholic and Westfield all played two games at the Greyhound Invitational on Saturday.
In the day’s first games, Guerin Catholic beat Carmel 6-2. The Golden Eagles never trailed, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
Sam Lewandowski hit a line drive with the bases loaded to score the first two runs; Keenan Taylor and Jake Andriole both got home. Owen Hargrave scored the third run on an error. The Greyhounds got one run back in the bottom of the first when Evan Petruzzi scored on a passed ball.
Petruzzi got home again in the third inning, sent home by Jackson Adams’ double. That cut Guerin’s lead to 3-2. But the Golden Eagles added a fifth-inning run when Brendan Downey scored on an error. Guerin Catholic then scored twice in the seventh, thanks to a two-RBI single from Hargrave. Taylor and Bennett Ely both got home; Ely got on base with a double.
Taylor was 2-for-4 at the plate. Max Engelking pitched six innings for the win, tossing six strikeouts and allowing three hits. Matt Parenteau threw the seventh inning, thus earning the save.
Ethan Pryor was 2-for-3 at the plate for Carmel. Drew Olssen struck out five in three innings.
Meanwhile, Westfield fell to Park Tudor 5-3 in its first game. The Panthers led 4-0 after four innings.
The Shamrocks got on the board in the fifth inning, when Bryce Dorton scored after Quentin Markle reached on error. Westfield scored two more runs in the seventh, as Kyle Pepiot had a two-RBI hit to center field. Dorton and Trey Anderson both got home.
AFTERNOON GAMES
Guerin Catholic ran its record to 2-0 for the day by beating Park Tudor 5-3.
The Golden Eagles again scored three runs in the first inning. Andriole got the first run on an error, then Engelking smacked a two-run single into right field to score Hargrave and Lewandowski.
Taylor hit a fourth-inning sacrifice fly to get Sam Joyal home. In the fifth inning, Engelking picked up his third RBI of the game, batting in Hargrave again. Engelking went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Lewandowski got the pitching win, going six innings. Parenteau threw the seventh for his second save of the day.
Meanwhile, Carmel got past Westfield 4-3 in eight innings in both teams’ second game of the day.
The ‘Hounds scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the second inning. Adams scored on an RBI fielder’s choice by Michael Uhrig.
The Shamrocks took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning. Matthew Meyer got home after Sam Eaton reached on error, then Eaton scored on Anderson’s left field hit. Meyer hit a triple to get on base.
Carmel tied the game in the sixth inning after Drew Harding stole home. Neither team scored in the seventh, so it was on to extra innings. Meyer gave Westfield the lead after scoring on an error in the top of the eighth, putting the ‘Rocks up 3-2. But the Greyhounds had five straight hits in the bottom of the eighth to score two runs. Petruzzi sent Harding home, then Olssen’s right field hit scored Robbie Levine.
Adams and Cade Kantz both had two hits for Carmel, with Kantz and JD Rogers getting a double. Aiden Bradbury pitched the first three innings for the win, with Tavic Simmons getting the save. Both only allowed one hit in their respective three innings on the mound.
Carmel finished the regular season 13-14, while Westfield completed an 11-15 regular season. Both teams are back in action Wednesday at the Noblesville sectional: The Greyhounds play Hamilton Southeastern and the Shamrocks take on Noblesville.
Guerin Catholic finished its regular season 13-12. The Golden Eagles will play New Castle on Friday in the bye semi-final game at the Yorktown sectional.
