Softball roundup: Huskies take care of Frankfort

Hamilton Heights took care of Frankfort 10-2 on Wednesday.
Jessica Kaurich led the Huskies by going 3-for-4 at the plate, including a home run. Kaurich drove in three runs and scored three runs.
Hayley Greene and Kelsie Albright both hit a double. Bayleigh Runner had two hits and scored two runs, as did Meredith Diller and Albright.
Adyson Baber pitched a complete game win, striking out nine.
“We started out strong with four hits in the first inning, scoring two runs and continued from there,” said Heights coach Landi Lockwood. “We had a couple of miscues on defense and left some runners on base but overall we had a good night getting the win, continuing a good week for us leading into sectionals.”
The Huskies host Alexandria on Friday for their regular-season finale.

Greyhounds fall to Harrison, Warren Central

Carmel dropped a 9-5 Metropolitan Conference game to Warren Central on Tuesday.
The Greyhounds took a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Sarah Goddard got on base with a triple, then scored on Darby Roberts’ single. Sydney Fox sent Roberts home with a right field triple, then Sophia Derziotis smacked a center field hit to get Fox home.
Roberts got Goddard home again with a fielder’s choice RBI in the third inning. That put Carmel ahead 4-1, but Warren scored twice in the top of the fourth, then a two-run home run put them ahead 5-4 in the fifth inning.
Goddard tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an inside the park home run. But the Warriors scored four runs in the top of the sixth and held on from there.
Goddard finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate. Cate Harden hit a triple, while Roberts and Fox both had two hits.
Carmel fell to Harrison 10-0 in six innings on Monday. The Greyhounds were held to two hits, a single each from Darby Roberts and Sophia Derziotis.
Carmel is 11-15 and hosts Greenfield-Central on Thursday.

Tigers beat Warren, falls to Eagles, Arabians

Fishers was stunned by a Zionsville comeback on Tuesday, as the Eagles came back from 4-0 down to win 5-4.
The Tigers scored three runs in the top of the third inning on back-to-back doubles. Brooke Benson hit the first one into center field to get Jade Frye and Courtney James home, then Hannah Mays’ double scored Benson.
Fishers added a fourth run in the sixth inning when Olivia Latimer’s right field hit scored Kristi Gordon. Zionsville scored four runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game, then hit a walk-off home run in the first at-bat of the seventh inning.
James, Mays and Gordon all had two hits, with Gordon also hitting a double.
Fishers won a back-and-forth Monday game with Warren Central 15-10.
The Warriors led 3-0 in the top of the first inning, but the Tigers responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning. Courtney James started things with a solo home run. Diane Abbott scored on a wild pitch, then Brooke Benson was sent home on Caroline Bernhardt’s left field double. Bernhardt later scored on a steal to push Fishers ahead 4-3.
Warren tied the game in the top of the second inning 4-4, but Fishers promptly went back up 6-4 in the bottom of the inning. Olivia Latimer and James got home after Hannah Mays reached on error. In the third inning, Sydney Milburn’s double scored Frye, then Benson’s two-RBI left field hit got Latimer and James home and the Tigers ahead 9-4.
The Warriors scored a run in the fourth inning, then took a 10-9 lead on a three-run homer in the fifth. Again, Fishers took the lead back right away. Diane Abbott tied it up with an RBI single that scored Sara Bumps. Benson hit a sacrifice fly to score James, then Bernhardt’s center field hit got Abbott home.
The Tigers added three more runs in the sixth inning. Bumps singled in Frye, then James smacked a double to score Milburn and Bumps.
James was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, while Bernhardt, Milburn and Bumps all had two hits. Alexis Hall went four and a third innings for the win.
Fishers dropped a 7-2 game at Pendleton Heights on Wednesday. The Tigers scored both of their runs in the fifth inning: Abbott batted in Milburn and Frye scored when Benson reached on error. Abbott and Frye both had two hits.
Fishers is 14-9 and travels to Anderson today for a 5:30 p.m. game.

UHS softball splits early-week games

University beat Indiana School for the Deaf 10-5 on Monday.
Freshman Kendra Stevens earned her 105th strikeout of the season and also hit an inside-the-park home run.

University’s win streak came to an end Tuesday when the ‘Blazers fell to Brebeuf Jesuit 11-4.
The Trailblazers will play Covenant Christian in their first-round sectional game at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 21 at Bethesda Christian.
