Softball roundup: Millers split games at Bishop Chatard Tournament

Noblesville split a pair of games at the Bishop Chatard Tournament on Saturday
In their first game, the Millers held off Class 3A No. 4 Yorktown 3-2. Noblesville got on the board in the second inning, as Madison Taylor cracked a two-run home run. Emily Minett also scored.
The Millers added a run in the fifth inning, with Abby Brown’s double sending Kyleigh Lowry home. Brown finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate, she also hit a double in the first inning.
Taylor pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
In the second game, Noblesville lost to Cardinal Ritter 10-5. The Raiders scored nine runs in the first inning.
The Millers got on the board with three runs in the third inning. Minett singled in Grace Smith for the first run, Julia Furiak got Ella White home on a right field hit, and Taylor sent Olivia Stinson in with a left field single.
Noblesville added two runs in the fifth inning. White hit a solo home run and Alyssa Solomon scored after Julia Furiak reached on error. White, Minett and Taylor all had two hits.
The Millers are 13-10 and host McCutcheon on Monday.

Royals go 1-1 at Shelbyville

Hamilton Southeastern split a pair of games at the Shelbyville Tournament on Saturday.
In their first game, the Class 4A No. 10 Royals lost to 4A No. 8 Decatur Central 12-1 in five innings. Southeastern scored its run in the top of the first inning, when Libby Ratliff singled in Abby Taylor. Decatur scored twice in the bottom of the first and led from there.
The Royals bounced back to beat Shelbyville 13-2 in six innings in their second game. Southeastern poured in 11 runs in the first inning, starting with a three-run home run from Jordan Rager. Kaelin Wincek hit a two-RBI triple, then was doubled in by Abbey Willmann.
Taylor, Rager and Ratliff each had three hits, with Rager driving in four runs. Jaylah Guilliam pitched the complete game, striking out five.
The Royals are 18-5 and host Brownsburg on Tuesday.

Carmel drops two at New Palestine

Carmel dropped two games against ranked opponents at New Palestine on Saturday.
First, the Greyhounds fell to Class 4A No. 5 Crown Point 4-2. The Bulldogs scored in the bottom of the second inning, but Carmel took a 2-1 lead in the fourth after Sydney Fox hit a two-run home run. Sarah Goddard also scored.
The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the fifth inning, and held the lead from there. Fox finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate, with Sophia Derziotis hitting a double.
In their second game, the Greyhounds lost to 3A No. 1 New Palestine 6-0. Carmel had two hits, one each from Maddie Searles and Cate Harden.
The ‘Hounds are 11-13 and play at Harrison on Monday.
