Glass forming returning today to Carmel Gallery Walk

Come out to the Carmel Arts & Design District today as Indiana Artisan Lisa Pelo of Hot Blown Glass, Inc. is welcomed to the IU Health North Hospital Second Saturday Gallery Walk. Hot Blown Glass will be leading participants in creating their own glass-formed heart on 2nd Avenue NW near Scotty’s Brewhouse. Registration is available on Eventbrite and walk-ups will be accommodated if available. Glass forming will take place from 2 to 9 p.m. today.

Dine at one of your favorite local eateries then stroll through the beautiful new exhibits at nine different galleries. Begin your evening by picking up a Scavenger Hunt Clue Sheet at All Things Carmel for your chance to win great prizes. The Gallery Walk takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. this evening.

Special gallery exhibits will be featured throughout the Gallery Walk including:

  • A specialist in the designing and weaving of tartans, Indiana Artisan Nancy Sinnott combines her love of math with her art and enjoys testing her abilities in both. With such an academic-sounding approach, it’s not surprising her love of textiles as an art form was fostered while a student at the University of Notre Dame and deepened while working with the textiles collection at the Smithsonian Institution. Meet this fascinating artisan and watch her weave on a loom during the Gallery Walk. Sinnott will have her authentic tartans, pillows and handwoven bracelets on hand. Fighting Irish fans will enjoy her newest bracelet and scarves, which feature the Notre Dame tartan and logo. (111 W. Main St., #120)
  • Art on Main Gallery and Gifts are featuring their Mother and Daughter Perspective show throughout the month of May by artists Deb Slack and her mother, Barb Gregory. (111 W. Main St., #140)
  • Silver in the City is teaming up with Just Pop In in Broad Ripple for a popcorn tasting night at their store. Just Pop In features flavors like Bazbeaux Pizza, Smoking Goose, Sun King and Four Birds Oatmeal Cookie popcorn. (111 W. Main St., #150)
  • Join Hoosier Salon today for the opening of a gallery featuring 24 canvases painted by plein air masters Wyatt LeGrand and Larry Ruolech. Larry and Wyatt pulled ideas for subject matter out of a hat and headed off into the Carmel Arts & Design District for new inspiration. (22 N. Range Line Road)
  • Throughout May, the Carmel Arts Council Children’s Art Gallery will feature student art from West Clay Elementary. Their exhibition, Colorful Prints, showcases the print-making abilities of the students as they investigated how to use their new Gelli printmaking tools. These tools were given to West Clay and other CCS elementary schools through a grant from the Camel Education Foundation. Each grade level learned about prints made by contemporary artists, Lili Arnold, Chris Cheney and Nieves Uhl. The Gallery Annex will continue to feature artwork from the Carmel, Clay and Creekside Middle Schools as well as Carmel High School. The CAC’s Community Art exhibit will showcase student art from Kawchinagano, Japan, through the Carmel “Sister Cities” organization. (40 W. Main St.)
  • CCA Gallery is featuring Abstract Connections featuring the talents of Jennifer Mujezinovic and Lily Pai. Mujezinovic paints in oil, creating stylized portraits of women in a loose and impulsive way; often leaving layers of the painting process exposed. Through the portrait of a woman, she creates a mood to connect the viewer in a way that feels familiar. Their eyes will draw you in in an incredible and moving way. Pai is trained as an architect and it shows in the details of her jewelry. She feels the details and the connections are what give the wearer a tactile connection to her pieces and pleasure wearing them. Please enjoy her exploration into a variety of connections using sterling silver, copper, enamel and semi-precious beads. (111 W. Main St., #135)
  • Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. Featured sculptors include Michael Wilkinson, Frederick Hart, Jerry Joslin and more. (33 E. Main St.)

Activities taking place during the May Gallery Walk include:

  • Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs (near Sub Zero Ice Cream, 111 W. Main St., #130)
  • Free musical entertainment along Main Street by Emma Hedrick and the Main Street Jazz Band, Diana Davis and Casey Harshbarger.
  • Be a part of the Scavenger Hunt that will lead you to find select pieces of art or items of interest in each of the participating galleries and businesses. Begin the hunt at All Things Carmel (110 W. Main St., #104). Your completed Scavenger Hunt clue sheet will enter you for a chance to win one of several great prizes sponsored by Carmel Health and Living during the Gallery Walk, including:
