Hamilton Southeastern got off to a fast start, and that led the Class 4A No. 10 Royals to a 14-4 win over Richmond in six innings on Wednesday.
The Red Devils scored the game’s first run in the top of the first inning, but Southeastern vaulted out in front by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the first. Libby Ratliff batted in HSE’s first run, a single to score Lillian Leiner. Ratliff was then sent home by Nicole Lang’s center field hit.
Abbey Willmann batted in Lang for the Royals’ third run, then Dillow singled into left field to score Kaelin Wincek and Willmann. Ahliza Moore scored on an error, Dillow was sent home by Abby Taylor’s left field line drive, then Taylor scored on an error. When the dust settled, HSE led 8-2.
Taylor, Reiner, Ratliff and Lang all had two hits, and Lang totaled four RBIs. Taylor, Ratliff and Lang each scored twice. Olivia Bucher got the win, striking out five and allowing just one hit in four and one-third innings.
Southeastern is 17-5 and will play at the Shelbyville Tournament on Saturday.
Tigers run into New Pal buzzsaw
Fishers ran into a buzzsaw at New Palestine on Wednesday, as the Class 3A No. 1 Dragons beat the Tigers 16-5 in five innings.
Already down 4-0, the Tigers scored three runs in the top of the third inning. Olivia Latimer got home on an RBI groundout by Brooke Benson, then Hannah Mays sent a two-RBI hit into right field. Courtney James and Diane Abbott both scored on Mays’ hit.
Fishers thus cut New Pal’s lead to 4-3, but the Dragons poured in 10 runs in the bottom of the third. The Tigers got two runs back in the fourth; Latimer’s double sent Jade Frye home, and Sydney Milburn was batted in by James. New Palestine scored twice in the bottom of the fourth and would eventually win by the run rule.
James and Latimer both finished the game with two hits.
Fishers is 13-7 and hosts Warren Central on Monday.
Golden Eagles win in walkoff
Guerin Catholic won a roller-coaster game with Cardinal Ritter 9-8 on Wednesday.
The Raiders scored twice in the top of the first inning, but the Golden Eagles roared back with five runs in the bottom of the inning. Alicia Flores hit a double to score Ana Macha, then Hannah Bills smacked a two-RBI double to send Madelyn Buckner and Flores home. Victoria Flores then scored after Natalie Mowid reached on error, and Bills was sent home by Jackie Sapienza’s RBI groundout.
Guerin was now up 5-2, but Ritter zoomed back ahead 8-5 by scoring six runs in the third inning. The Golden Eagles fought back and tied the game in the fourth inning. Elizabeth DiBlasio got the first run, then Alicia Flores cracked a double to score Macha.
Victoria Flores was next, and her single scored Alicia Flores and tied the game. The score would stay tied at 8-8 until the seventh inning, when Caitlin Collins scored the winning run on an error.
Five different Guerin Catholic players had two hits; including Alicia Flores, who had doubles for both of her hits. Alicia also pitched a complete game for the win.
The Golden Eagles are 6-9 and host Western Boone on Friday.
‘Hawks overwhelmed by Bruins
Sheridan lost at Tri-West 10-3 on Wednesday.
The Bruins scored two runs in the first inning, then poured in eight runs in the second. The Blackhawks scored all of their runs in the third inning.
Lauren Railer drove in Sheridan’s first run, as her double sent Allie Delph home. Railer scored later after Katy Crail reached on error, then Cassie Vargas’ single got Crail home.
Vargas finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Blackhawks are 8-8 and play at North Miami on Friday.
