Huskies beat Madison-Grant

Hamilton Heights beat Madison-Grant 4-2 on Monday.
The Huskies scored one run each in the second and third innings. Sam Rupe batted in Evan Warner for the first run, then Cole Meyer scored the second run on a passed ball. Heights added two runs in the fourth inning: Ike Peterson singled in Michael Cross, then Meyer cracked a left field double to send Peterson home.
Meyer finished the game 2-for-4, with both of his hits doubles. Sam Fulton threw four innings for the win, striking out five and allowing just one hit. Cross went three innings for the save, striking out six.
“We were really good defensively tonight which is refreshing,” said Heights coach JR Moffatt. “That’s an area that has hurt us of late. It was really good to see how sharp Michael was in relief. His first inning he got us out of a little hole and then he finished it strong. Sam Fulton is just Sam Fulton, he’s not perfect, but when he’s hitting his spots he’s really good. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that Sam is a junior and still relatively young because it seems like he’s been around forever. I’m sure there are some opponents that feel that same way. But Sam is a special player and person and we are very fortunate to get to watch him work.”
“Cole really sparked us offensively on a night that balls didn’t find the holes. He doubled twice with one of those just missing a HR off of the fence. Cole is a gritty player, I’m not sure where we’d be without him. This is a good start to the week.”
The Huskies are 9-8 and play at Eastern on Thursday.
