Noblesville clinched its Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Hamilton Southeastern on Saturday, beating the Royals 7-0 at Ken Seitz Field.
The series was tied at 1-1 coming into this game, but the Millers quickly took the lead to take the series 2-1. Noblesville scored twice in the second inning to get on the board; Reese Sharp scored first when Ethan Imel reached on error, then Bryce Randolph scored on error.
The Millers added two more runs in the third inning. DJ Owens batted in Cooper Miles with a left field hit, then Owens scored on an RBI groundout from Bryce Randolph. In the fourth inning, Cooper Miles hit a sacrifice fly to send Zac Tuinei home, Owens doubled in Mark Goudy and Jacob Thieman scored Owens on a center field single.
Goudy finished the game 4-for-4 at the plate, including two doubles, while Randolph was 2-for-3. Jackson Ramey pitched a complete game, striking out six and allowing just three hits and no walks.
Cole DeWael, Matt Buckingham and Jake Stout all had one hit for Southeastern.
The Millers are 5-7 in the HCC and 13-10 overall, while the Royals are 3-12 in the conference and 6-14 overall. Noblesville plays at Kokomo on Tuesday while Southeastern hosts Columbus North on Thursday.
‘Blazers win Taylor Tournament
University won the Taylor Tournament on Saturday.
The Trailblazers beat North Miami 10-8 in the first game. University got right to it, with Dawson Estep hitting a home run in the Trailblazers’ first at-bat. Cade Carlson sent Garrett Hill home later in the inning on a sacrifice fly. In the second inning, Estep batted Tyler Galyean in for a run, then Hill sent a two-run homer over the left field fence, getting Estep home as well.
North Miami came back to within 5-4 by the middle of the fourth inning, but University added three more runs in the bottom of the inning. Estep’s sacrifice fly sent Kolton Stevens home, then Hill smacked a two-RBI single to get Galyean and Ryan Williams in.
Hill hit his second home run of the game in the sixth inning, a two-run hit over the left field fence. Estep scored as well, it was the third run of the game for both Hill and Estep. Hill finished 4-for-4 at the plate and totaled six RBIs, while Estep was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs. Galyean was 2-for-3.
Brock Moore pitched five innings, striking out 11. Will Spence closed the game and secured the win.
In the championship game, University beat Taylor 8-3. The ‘Blazers scored in the top of the first inning, with Carlson smacking a double to get Moore home. University added three more runs in the second: Hill doubled in Galyean and Williams, then Ben Ewer’s right field hit got Hill home.
Dawson Estep hit a two-RBI single in the fifth inning; Galyean and Williams both scored. Ewer got Estep home with a left field single. Ewer also got the last RBI of the game, with a double to get Moore home.
Ewer finished the game 5-for-5 at the plate, with three RBIs. Carlson pitched five and a third innings for the win, striking out 10.
University is 15-5 and will host the Heritage Christian junior varsity team on Tuesday.
Orioles hold off Westfield
Westfield lost the third game of its Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Avon 2-0 on Saturday.
The Orioles held the Shamrocks to four hits. Trey Anderson went 2-for-2 at the plate. Matthew Meyer pitched a complete game, striking out seven.
“Matthew pitched really well today, we just couldn’t find any offensive support today or in this series really,” said Westfield coach Ryan Bunnell. “Avon certainly deserves the credit for that, but we also have to grind out better at bats. I thought we could have had much better at bats than we did in this series. Our pitching was there for us this series, we had opportunities in each game. We just didn’t get it done on the offensive side.”
Westfield is 7-8 in the HCC and 8-10 overall. The ‘Rocks host Lapel on Tuesday.
Golden Eagles split two games
Guerin Catholic split two games on Saturday.
In their first game, the Golden Eagles beat Jasper 3-1 in eight innings. Jasper scored in the first inning, but Guerin answered in the top of the third, with Sam Joyal getting home on a passed ball.
The score stayed tied at 1-1 until the eighth inning, when Bennett Ely hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded. Jake Andriole and Nate Bingman scored. Ely was 4-for-4 at the plate, while Andriole went 2-for-3. Andriole also pitched seven innings, tossing six strikeouts.
The Golden Eagles lost their second game to Edgewood 12-0 in five innings. Owen Hargrave and Sam Lewandowski both had one hit.
Guerin Catholic is 8-7 and plays at Roncalli on Tuesday.
