Sheridan won two games at Elwood on Saturday.
In their first game, the Blackhawks cruised to a 12-0 win in five innings over Southwood, scoring in each inning. Lauren Railer hit two home runs, the first a solo homer in the third inning.
In the fourth, Railer cracked a three-run homer over the left field fence. Railer also hit a double, and finished 3-for-3 at the plate, ultimately driving in five runs.
Allie Delph and Audrey Reed both hit doubles, with Reed scoring three runs and Delph getting two runs.
Addyson Ream pitched all five innings, only allowing three hits and issuing no walks.
In the second game, the ‘Hawks beat Elwood 9-7, scoring five runs in the first inning and holding off a late comeback by the Panthers.
Cassie Vargas batted in the first two runs, hitting a single to score Railer and Reed. Katy Crail then scored on a wild pitch, and Sydney Neff hit a sacrifice fly to get Vargas in. Ream singled in Nixon Williams for the fifth run.
Sheridan added another run in the second inning, as Vargas batted in Railer. The Blackhawks scored twice in the fourth inning on wild pitches, with Reed and Crail both getting home. Jayden Warren got home on a passed ball in the seventh inning.
Reed and Vargas both had two hits, with Vargas driving in three runs. Railer and Reed both hit one double. Reed pitched a complete game for the win.
Sheridan is 7-7 and will host Eastern on Tuesday.
‘Hounds win all-county game with GC
In a Saturday morning all-county softball game, Carmel beat Guerin Catholic 12-2 in six innings at Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
Both teams scored one run in the first inning. The Golden Eagles’ Hannah Bills batted in Ana Macha in the top of the inning, then the Greyhounds’ Brooke Bair got Maddie Searles home with a single to right field.
In the top of the fourth inning, Guerin’s Jackie Sapienza scored Victoria Flores with a right field hit, giving GC a 2-1 lead. But Carmel poured in six runs in the bottom of the inning: Bair scored and tied the game after Sophia Derziotis reached on error. Derziotis gave the ‘Hounds the lead after getting home on a wild pitch, and Carmel would cruise from there.
Searles and Bair both finished the game with three hits. Bair drove in three runs, while Searles scored three runs. Bair would end the game in the sixth inning with a two-run home run. Searles hit a fourth-inning triple that drove in two runs.
Sarah Goddard hit two doubles, while Searles had one double. Stormy Kotzelnick and Bair both scored two runs. Searles pitched a complete game for the win, striking out six.
Macha, Bills and Madelyn Buckner all had two hits for Guerin Catholic. Victoria Flores and Macha each hit one double.
Carmel is 9-10 and plays at Fishers on Monday. The Golden Eagles are 4-8 and host Hamilton Heights on Tuesday.
Southeastern wins two games, including upset of Crown Point
Hamilton Southeastern won two games at Crown Point on Saturday, including a dramatic 10-inning victory over the host Bulldogs.
The Royals beat Class 4A No. 2 Crown Point 1-0 in 10 innings. Neither team scored for nine innings, but Southeastern finally broke through in the 10th, when Abby Taylor hit a sacrifice fly to score Kennedy Morgan. The Bulldogs only allowed HSE two hits, one each from Lillian Leiner (a double) and Abbey Willmann.
But the Royals didn’t allow Crown Point many hits either. The Bulldogs only got five hits off Southeastern pitcher Jaylah Guilliam, who struck out six.
The second game was much easier for the Royals, as they beat Boone Grove 11-1 in five innings. Southeastern got going in the second inning, getting on the board when Nicole Dillow cracked a triple to score Ava Aguilar. Dillow got home when Jordan Rager hit an RBI single. Taylor scored on an error, then Lauren Ratliff’s center field hit got Leiner and Rager home.
Dillow went 3-for-3 at the plate, while Rager was 2-for-2 and drove in four runs. Holly Hosfield and Aguilar both had two hits as well. Bre Zook hit a fifth-inning triple, and would score the game-ending run when she was singled in by Nicole Lang. Rager and Kaelin Wincek both had one double.
Courtney Kocal pitched four innings, striking out six.
The Royals are 15-5 and host Anderson on Monday.
