Softball roundup: Millers beat Huskies in all-county game

Noblesville won an all-county softball game with Hamilton Heights 13-2 in five innings Friday at the Millers’ field.
Noblesville scored at least two runs in each inning and have five different players with two hits. The Millers got four runs in the first inning: Ella White batted in Chloe Tragesser for the first score, then Julia Furiak sent a home run over the right field fence, also scoring Grace Smith and White.
Smith would get her own three-run homer in the third inning; that would score Rylie Moore and Abby Brown and give the Millers a 10-0 lead. Tragesser added an RBI double in the fourth inning, sending Cheney Gertz home. White scored three runs in the game.
Madison Taylor pitched three innings for the win, striking out five.
Aliyah Dorsey got the Huskies on the board with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Kylie Schakel got Heights’ second run in the fifth inning. Jessica Kaurich went 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Millers are 10-8 and play at Yorktown on Monday. The Huskies are 7-9 and host Mount Vernon at 10 a.m. today.

‘Rocks fall to Mount Vernon

Westfield lost to Mount Vernon 10-0 in five innings on Friday.
Savannah Arvin was 2-for-2 for the Shamrocks, including a double.
Westfield is 6-11 and plays at Cathedral on Monday.

Late surge sends Sheridan to loss

A late surge by Alexandria sent Sheridan to an 18-5 defeat at Biddle Park on Friday.
The Tigers never trailed, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. The Blackhawks scored twice in the bottom of the first: Lauren Railer got home on an error, then Cassie Vargas scored Katy Crail with a base hit.
Sheridan added a fifth-inning run when Amanda Perry’s single got Jayden Warren home. The score was still 4-3 at that point, but Alexandria poured in five runs in the sixth inning and nine in the seventh. The ‘Hawks did get two runs in the bottom of the seventh, with Nixon Williams smacking a two-RBI double to score Crail and Vargas.
Audrey Reed, Crail and Vargas all had two hits, including a double for Reed.
Sheridan is 5-7 and hosts Elwood at 11 a.m. today.

‘Hounds beat Plainfield

Carmel beat Plainfield 5-2 in a Friday game at the Cherry Tree Softball Complex.
The Greyhounds scored twice in the first inning. Stormy Kotzelnick got on base with a double, then was batted in by Brooke Bair’s left field hit. Bair would later score when Sommer Edwards singled into center field.
Carmel added another pair of runs in the third inning: Sarah Goddard scored on Edwards’ RBI groundout, then Bair was sent home on a hit by Ariana Zdobylak. Goddard hit a fourth-inning single to score Kotzelnick, her second run of the game.
Goddard finished the day 3-for-4 at the plate. Edwards pitched a complete game with five strikeouts.
Carmel is 8-10 and hosts Guerin Catholic at 10 a.m. this morning.
