Kristen Riley asks you to vote for her husband, Will Riley, on May 8

Dear Editor:

I have been married to Will Riley for 30 years. We first met in 1979 at North Central High School as sophomores. We both attended IU and graduated together in 1986. After graduation, I went to work in Indianapolis as a financial planner and Will went to law school, staying in Bloomington.

Will worked his first summer for the Indianapolis Parks Department as a camp counselor and saved his earnings to purchase my engagement and wedding rings. We were engaged in November of 1986 and married on January 2, 1988, during the Christmas season because the church was already decorated and we needed to save money.

Because I needed to commute to my job in Indianapolis and Will needed to continue with his classes in Bloomington, we rented an apartment in Martinsville. We had a wonderful time in Martinsville, enjoying the people and the small community. Will was always very approachable and genuinely interested in meeting the people among whom we lived and worshipped. We became very involved in our parish, and Will taught Sunday school for the time we lived there.

After law school, Will began practicing with Baker & Daniels, and we remained active in civic and charitable causes. I was a volunteer for many years at Saint Augustine Home for the Aged and volunteered at our parish, St. Simon, and our son’s school in a variety of ways. Will served on the parish council, rendered pro bono services to our church community, and enthusiastically volunteered on school field trips. We also helped raise our niece during this time. She attended Cathedral High School and graduated from IU two years ago. She currently serves in the Peace Corps in Cambodia.

My husband has the intellect to be the next Judge in Hamilton County Superior Court 1, but most importantly he has the heart and the determination to do the job. One of my hobbies is reading about our Founding Fathers. I also love the music to Hamilton! One thing I took away from my reading is how passionately these men cared about our nation and the community where they lived.

Will loves this nation and where we live. He sees the law and the courts as one of the important ways we are kept free and safe. I know he will bring this passion to serving as a judge.

Please vote for my husband, Will Riley, on May 8 to be our next Hamilton County Superior Court 1 Judge.

Kristen Riley
