Softball roundup: Millers fall to Kokomo

Noblesville fell behind early and couldn’t catch up to Kokomo, dropping a 7-3 game Thursday at the Millers’ field.
The Wildkats took control early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning. Noblesville scored one run in three different innings, starting in the bottom of the first. Grace Smith hit a left field double to send Chloe Tragesser home.
Smith would bat in another Miller run in the third inning, as her sacrifice fly scored Abby Brown. In the fifth inning, Kyleigh Lowry hit a solo home run.
Emily Minett was 3-for-3 at the plate, while Tragesser hit a third-inning double.
Noblesville is 9-8 and hosts Hamilton Heights at 5 p.m. today.

‘Rocks lose up-and-down game to Eagles

Westfield dropped an up-and-down Hoosier Crossroads Conference game to Zionsville 10-8 on Friday at the Shamrocks’ field.
The Eagles scored two runs each in the first two innings, but Westfield tied the game up with four runs in the bottom of the second. Savannah Arvin’s base hit to right field sent Corinne Molter home, then Emily Revercomb and Georgia Haffley scored after Caroline Maymon reached on error. Madeline Hunter, who came in to run for Arvin, would also score on error.
Zionsville hit a home run in the top of the third to get up 5-4, but the ‘Rocks answered that right away: Ashley Swartout cracked a two-run homer to center field. Regan Nickel also scored, and Westfield now led 6-5.
The Eagles smacked back-to-back home runs to start the fifth inning, putting them up 7-6. Zionsville added three more runs in the sixth to keep the lead for good, but Westfield went down swinging: Swartout struck again with another two-run home run, this one also sent Reghan Oland home.
Swartout totaled four RBIs with her two home runs. Oland, Molter and Arvin each collected two hits. Avery Wagner struck out four in four innings.
Westfield is 1-4 in the conference and 6-10 overall. The Shamrocks travel to Mount Vernon today for a 5:30 p.m. game.

‘Blazers cruise past Tindley

University beat Tindley 14-0 in five innings on Thursday.
The first inning was a quiet one for both teams. The Trailblazers played solid defense in the second inning and were able to get their bats hot and scored five runs. The third inning was another strong one for the Trailblazers and they were able to add 9 more runs to their total.
Freshman Kendra Stevens pitched a strong game with 13 strikeouts on the mound, while sophomore Abby Martin was solid behind the plate. Junior Lydia Copeland had two hits, one run, and one RBI and classmate Haley Tomlinson had two hits, two runs, and two RBIs. Stevens had three hits, one run, and two RBIs, while junior Lillian Klemsz had one hit and one run, sophomore Annie Klemsz had one hit and three runs.
Sophomore Elise Nachlis hit an inside-the-park home run for one of her two hits, two runs, and three RBIs. Sophomore Robin Karwath had one run, one hit, and one RBI, junior Tatiana Dunipace had one hit, one run and one RBI, and freshman Grace Brenner had two runs and one RBI.
