Dear Editor:
The purpose of this letter is to ask those Hamilton County voters who don’t have a favorite in the race for Hamilton County Sheriff in the upcoming primary to consider Mitch Russell.
Mitch’s accolades speak to why he is qualified on a professional level. My purpose is to give some context as to why he is qualified, and why you should consider him, on a human level. This isn’t to say others are not qualified or not good people as well. This is to give everyone a brief look at Mitch as a person without the normal political context.
I have known Mitch for nearly 15 years with 10 of those years living as his next door neighbor. The actions and quality of person Mitch is were shown immediately as we moved into his neighborhood in Arcadia. He never has failed to be there for anyone in my family. As a husband and father raising three young boys, Mitch is someone I can look to as an example to lead my family. He is as genuine of a person as you can meet. At times, the guidance from Mitch wasn’t what I wanted to hear, it is what I needed to hear. This is a quality I look for in a leader.
I will leave you with the best example I can to explain who Mitch Russell is as a person and what he will represent as Sheriff of Hamilton County.
My scariest moment as a father was when my middle son had an accident and received a severe concussion. He was in obvious need of medical care. My wife and I rushed him to Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis with our infant third child along for the trip. On a beautiful Sunday morning, Mitch and his wife Melanie drove to Indianapolis to pick up our infant child so we could focus our attention on our injured son. He didn’t do that so someday I could share this story in a Letter to the Editor when he runs for Sheriff. He did it because that is the quality person that is Mitch Russell.
Mitch and his family represent what I and looking for in a leader. He truly loves this county and the people in it.
