On Saturday morning, 428 people turned out to support the Cicero Fire Auxiliary’s 2018 pancake breakfast fundraiser held at the fire department, 1359 Stringtown Pike, Cicero.

According to Chief Lance Overholser, this year was “quite a bit larger than last year.” He credits his department’s work to promote the event and engage the community on social media as one reason for that growth.

The silent auction raised nearly $1,000, in addition to the funds generated from the breakfast.

Funds from Saturday’s event will go toward purchasing new thermal imaging cameras for all Cicero Fire Department trucks.

“This will allow our firefighters to quickly and efficiently locate the seat of the fire and will aid in rescue operations,” Overholser told The Reporter. “With these cameras we will be able to locate victims a lot quicker and help save lives.”

One such camera is currently in use on the department’s fire engine, but with advances in technology there are now smaller less expensive models that Overholser hopes to add to every truck in the fleet.

Overholser sends his thanks to everyone who sponsored and donated to the silent auction and to everyone who attended the event.

“We’d like to see everyone again next year,” Overholser said.
