Hamilton Southeastern improved to 3-0 in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference by beating Zionsville 12-2 in six innings on Wednesday.
The Eagles scored their runs in the top of the first inning, but the Royals would not allow them anymore after that. Southeastern tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the first; Libby Ratliff hit a right field double to score Lillian Leiner and Jordan Rager, who also hit a double during the inning.
The Royals got the lead in the third inning when Rager hit a center field home run to get herself and Abby Taylor home. Southeastern rolled in six runs in the fourth inning: Taylor singled in Holly Hosfield then Leiner’s single got Ahliza Moore home.
Nicole Dillow scored on a passed ball, then Ratliff sent a homer into right field for three runs. Taylor and Leiner also scored.
Taylor hit a fifth-inning sacrifice fly to score Abbey Willmann. In the sixth inning, Rager doubled, advanced to third after Ratliff reached on error, then Nicole Lang hit a double to score Rager and finish the game.
Ratliff and Rager both were 3-for-4 at the plate, with Ratliff totaling five RBIs and Rager getting two RBIs. Rager also scored three runs and hit two doubles, with four other HSE players getting one double.
“Top to bottom in the order, we hit it,” said HSE coach David Cook. “Fifteen total hits, that’s pretty good and we had a couple long balls.”
Jaylah Guilliam struck out five in five innings for the win, then Courtney Kocal closed the game in the sixth.
Southeastern is 8-4 and will next play at Pendleton Heights on Friday. The Royals’ game with Shenandoah that was scheduled for today has been canceled.
