Softball roundup: Millers hang on to beat Harrison

Noblesville held off Harrison 14-13 in a wild game that was played at Grand Park on Tuesday.
The Raiders scored two runs in the top of the first, but the Millers took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning. Abby Brown scored the first run, then Emily Minett sent a home run to center field, also scoring Kyleigh Lowry and Ella White.
Chloe Tragesser’s second-inning single scored Olivia Stinson, then White opened the bottom of the third with a homer. In the fourth inning, Julia Furiak singled in Shea Sterrett, then White’s bunt single scored Grace Smith. That brought up Minett, and she connected on her second home run of the day. Lowry and White also scored.
Noblesville added three more runs in the fifth inning. Tragesser got Brown home with a single and would score later in the inning. White’s single sent Smith home. That made the score 14-6, and the Millers were able to hold off a furious seventh-inning rally: Harrison hit back-to-back doubles to score three runs, but a pop out to Tragesser finished the game.
Minett’s two homers totaled six RBIs. Tragesser and White were both 3-for-3, and Smith hit a double. White batted in three runs and Tragesser drove in two.
Madison Taylor struck out 10 in four and two thirds innings, with Baily Ryan pitching the remainder of the game to get the save.
Noblesville is 7-3 and travels to Cathedral today for a 5:30 p.m. game.

Ream’s one-hitter helps Sheridan to victory

A one-hitter by Addyson Ream led the Sheridan softball team to an 11-0, five-inning win at Clinton Central on Tuesday.
Ream pitched a fantastic game, allowing no hits through the first four innings. A single at the beginning broke up the no-hitter, but Ream struck out two of the next three batters to preserve the shutout. Ream totaled eight strikeouts on the night.
Meanwhile, Sheridan’s offense had eight hits. Lauren Railer and Audrey Reed both had two hits, with Reed getting doubles for both of her hits. Cassie Vargas had a double as well. Amanda Perry, Railer and Reed all scored two runs.
The ‘Hawks began the game with three runs in the first inning, then added seven more in the second. Reed and Vargas both hit one double in the inning to score one run.
The Blackhawks are 2-4 and will play at 5 p.m. today at Western Boone.

‘Rocks fall to Brownsburg

Westfield lost a Hoosier Crossroads Conference game at Brownsburg 11-3 on Tuesday.
The Shamrocks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Ashley Swartout singled in Reghan Oland. The Bulldogs went ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the second, but Westfield got those runs back in the top of the third.
Corinne Molter singled home Regan Nickel, then Sara Harmeyer’s single scored Swartout, who had gotten on earlier with a double. Westfield led 3-2, but Brownsburg took the lead back in the bottom of the third with two runs, then poured in seven runs in the fourth inning.
Swartout finished the game 3-for-4 with two doubles. Savannah Arvin and Emily Revercomb both hit one double.
The Shamrocks are 0-3 in the conference and 3-8 overall. Westfield travels to Tipton today for a 5:30 p.m. game.

University battles elements, Liberty Christian

In the cold and rain, University traveled to Anderson to face Pioneer Conference opponent Liberty Christian on Tuesday, falling 10-0.
Despite the rain and mud, freshman Kendra Stevens pitched a strong game and threw four strikeouts. Stevens also earned the only hit for the Trailblazers.
The ‘Blazers play again today against Traders Point.

LCC overwhelms Golden Eagles

Guerin Catholic fell to Lafayette Central Catholic 16-2 in a Tuesday home game.
The Golden Eagles scored both of their runs in the fourth inning; Hanna Bills hit a center field single to send Madelyn Buckner and Victoria Flores home. Flores finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate.
Guerin Catholic is 2-5 and plays at Sheridan on Thursday.
