Lacrosse teams start season with victories

The Guerin Catholic girls lacrosse team opened its season Thursday with a 19-1 win at Roncalli.

Mackenzie Ford and Natalie Boe each scored three goals for the Golden Eagles. Jane Cline and Reagan Kaercher both added two goals. Nine more players scored one goal each: Claire Poe, Gabby Deer, Lucy Esposito, Natalie Laughon, Claire Flannagan, Ella Capofari, Lydia Smith, Corinne Karlander and Ellie Daly.

Westfield’s girls opened their season Tuesday with a 12-9 victory over Brebeuf Jesuit.

Sophia Merriman scored six goals and had eight draw controls, while Nellie Dager had three goals. Val Tice was strong on defense with 14 saves and four ground balls.

Hamilton Southeastern’s boys began their season Wednesday with a 16-2 win at Brebeuf Jesuit.

Senior Max Kemp dominated the offense with six goals, three assists and two ground balls. Junior David Gould had three goals, three assists and three ground balls. Junior Kyle Kenkins and freshman Kody Lougheed both scored two goals.

Two more Royals played strong defense. Sophomore Vince Putnam collected nine ground balls, while Jack Fisher totaled two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Nick Weber went 14-3 on faceoffs.
