Hamilton Heights picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday, beating Taylor 5-0.
No. 3 singles Abby Weber, No. 1 doubles Kylie Rose/Emma Knowles and No. 2 doubles Emily Peterson and Kinsey Dimmock all won their matches 6-0, 6-0. The other two singles winners – No. 1 Anna Carl and No. 2 Kennedy Hunter – only dropped two games in their matches.
The Huskies’ junior varsity won 9-0. Getting victories for Heights were Hailey VanOeveren, Maddie Nickel, Addi Gordon/Katy Beery, Kate Biggs/Gwendolyn Kelley, Brooke Sears/Cortney Martin, Caitlin Hartwick/Ellie Arrowood, Sarah Biggs/Jackie Beery, and Ashley Heniser/Rebekah Steffen.
“We’re in the middle of a really busy opening week, and it was good for our girls to gain some confidence through tonight’s match,” said Heights coach Cameron Scott. “It’s exciting to see growth in this team on a daily basis, and we’ll hope to continue that in our match against Lewis Cass tomorrow.”
Heights beat Maconaquah 4-1 on Thursday. Carl and Weber won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles respectively, with No. 1 doubles Rose and Knowles and No. 2 doubles Peterson and Dimmock winners as well.
Westfield won its home opener on Thursday, beating Lawrence Central 4-1.
The Shamrocks won all of their matches in straight sets. No. 2 singles Maddie Heilmann was victorious 6-4, 6-2, with No. 3 singles Julia Gabbennesch winning 6-4, 6-4. No. 1 singles Chloe Kalis lost a hard-fought three-set match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
In doubles, No. 1 Emma Clary and Katy Zaloudek breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 win, with No. 2 Maya Raymond and Meredith Carlson getting a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
