Carmel fell to Center Grove 9-5 in its first Metropolitan Conference game of the season.
The Greyhounds got the first run of the game in the top of the second inning when Evan Petruzzi stole home plate. The Trojans took the lead in the bottom of the inning by scoring three runs.
Carmel got another run in the third, when Will Richter doubled home Jared Greene. Center Grove went up 5-2 with two more runs, but the Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the fourth with three runs.
Jack Van Remortel drew a bases-loaded walk to score Petruzzi, then Richter’s walk got Brayden Lentz home. Greene then scored on a wild pitch. The Trojans hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead back.
On Monday, Carmel won a 6-4 county rivalry game with Hamilton Southeastern at Hartman Field.
The Royals scored first, getting three runs in the top of the second inning. Greyson Droste scored first, after Brayton Harrison reached on an error. Jacob Daftari was sent home when Anthony Eggers drew a bases-loaded walk, then Zach Boyle scored on an error.
The Greyhounds responded with two runs in the bottom of the second. Lentz singled in Drew Kelly for the first run. Ethan Pryor stole home to get Carmel within 3-2.
Southeastern made it 4-2 in the fourth inning when Eggers singled in Harrison. Carmel took the lead in the fifth inning by scoring three runs; Jackson Adams scored after Ethan Pryor drew a walk, then Lentz hit a sacrifice fly to get Kelly home. Petruzzi gave the ‘Hounds the lead when he scored after Drew Olssen reached on error.
Carmel’s sixth run came on a sixth-inning fielder’s choice. Van Remortel scored, with Robbie Levine getting the RBI.
Adams and Olssen both had two hits for the Greyhounds.
Carmel is now 2-3 and hosts Center Grove at 5:30 p.m. today to conclude the series. The Royals are 3-4 and play a Hoosier Crossroads Conference series with Class 4A No. 3 Fishers this weekend. Games will take place at the Tigers’ field at 6 p.m. Thursday and at noon Saturday, with a game at HSE at 6 p.m. Friday.
