A Fishers man died in a crash of a sport utility vehicle and a semitractor-tanker Monday afternoon on Interstate 69, police said.

Indiana State Police responded at about 3:15 p.m. to the I-69 southbound lanes on the south border of Anderson at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

Roscoe Murray, 49, was driving a Honda CRV toward a construction zone when it crashed into the rear of the semitractor-tanker, which was empty, police said. Murray was taken to a St. Vincent Health hospital, where he died.

Dereon Bond, 44, Decatur, Ill., was taken to St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

A preliminary investigation found Murray was accelerating down the ramp from the boulevard to get onto I-69 southbound and failed to see the stopped traffic ahead.

The crash had I-69 southbound closed for nearly three hours.
