Hamilton Heights opened its season on Thursday with a 4-0 win over Anderson. The game was played at Anderson’s Memorial Field.
The Huskies scored two runs in the top of the first, starting with a single from Gabe Reel that sent Michael Cross home. Cole Meyer later scored on a passed ball.
Reel struck again in the third inning, as his left field double got Meyer in for his second run of the game. The Huskies added another run in the fifth inning. This time Reel scored, as he was singled home by Sam Rupe.
Reel finished the game 3-for-4, with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Meyer hit a double and a triple; he accounted for two of Heights’ nine hits in the game.
Meyer got the win on the mound, pitching three innings. Ike Peterson tossed four strikeouts in his three innings. Reel threw a perfect seventh inning to close the game.
“We played pretty well for a bunch of guys who had not been on the field for 14 days,” said first-year Huskies coach JR Moffat. “We were gone for spring break and had three days to get ready, well, the weather, what can you do?
“Our pitchers got out front and did a good job of staying aggressive. Our hitters were aggressive but did a good job of hitting strikes. We have some guys who didn’t play a lot last year and they are getting their shot. I’m really excited to see what this year brings, this is a great group of young men.”
Heights is scheduled to play again at Anderson today. First pitch is at 5:30 p.m.
