Cross country sectionals: Noblesville girls, Fishers boys & both Carmel teams all earn sectional titles

The Noblesville girls and Fishers boys cross country teams both defended sectional championships last Saturday at the Millers’ Chanquapin Ridge Cross Country Course at White River Elementary School.

In the girls meet, Noblesville scored 53 points, comfortably ahead of runner-up Hamilton Southeastern’s 72. The Millers won for the fourth year in a row and seventh time in program history. Noblesville landed three runners in the top 10: Riley Flynn placed fifth, Ansley Applegate was sixth and Jayde Stamm placed ninth.

The Royals had two runners finish in the top 10. Elizabeth Butler took third in a time of 17 minutes, 50.4 seconds, while Catherine Campbell finished eighth.

Westfield took third as a team, scoring 76 points. Alivia Lozier had the best finish among the county girls, clocking in at 17:47.4 to place second. Pendleton Heights’ Ava Jarrell dominated the race, winning in a time of 17:21.9.

The Arabians took fourth with 109 points, followed by Fishers in fifth place with 119 points. The Tigers were led by Bella Murch’s seventh-place finish.

The top five teams advance to Saturday’s Shelbyville regional at Blue River Park. In addition, the top 15 runners not on an advancing team move on to the regional. Hamilton Heights and Guerin Catholic will have several runners moving on.

The Huskies were led by Allie Bushey’s 10th place individual finish. She will be joined by teammates Anna Monnin, Amira Leer, Ayla Madara and Kendall Moe. Golden Eagles runners advancing are Taylor Tragesser, Keira Hines, Sophia Galvin, Ella Smith, Delaney Gould and Kara Van Woerkom.

In the boys meet, Fishers edged out Noblesville, with the Tigers totaling 52 points and the Millers racking up 57 points. Fishers won a sectional title for the sixth time in program history.

Tigers senior Sam Quagliaroli was the race winner, blasting his way through the course in a time of 14:46.3, over 43 seconds ahead of second place. Nate Thomas placed seventh for Fishers.

Noblesville had three runners in the top 10. John Libs placed second, Banner Barnes was fourth and senior Jack Strong took 10th place.

Hamilton Southeastern finished a strong third with 61 points. Liam Powers placed third individually while Nicolas Vega finished eighth.

Westfield totaled 89 points to place fourth as a team. Ty Conner took fifth place to lead the Shamrocks.

Guerin Catholic scored 168 points for the fifth-place spot, joining the other schools in advancing to the regional. Luke Moster placed 11th.

Hamilton Heights had five runners advance to regional as individuals: Rudy Bowman, Isaiah Heuer, Will Monnin, Aiden Clarke and Hudson Holt.

Carmel swept the team trophies at the North Central sectional last Saturday.

The Greyhounds girls team scored 27 points, placing all seven of its runners in the top 16. Annabel Pollert led the way with a runner-up finish; she clocked in at 17:55.8.

Carmel’s boys were even more dominant, scoring 21 points and landing six runners in the top eight. Jonah Kaul was the race winner in 15:36.4, with Jack Capes placing second.

The Greyhounds advance to the Brownsburg regional on Saturday. The girls team won its first title since 2020 and 37th overall, while the boys won their fourth in a row and 49th overall.

In addition, four University boys will move on to regional as individuals: Finlay Reid, Mario Buoscio, Henry Wang and Walter Wilson. Two University girls also advance: Laurel Gough-McKeown and Kelley Trowbridge. University’s boys placed seventh with 188 points and the girls were ninth with 242 points.
