Sheridan invites you to cut ribbon on latest Monon Trail extension

Trail development has been a big focus this year for the Sheridan community. This past spring, the Town of Sheridan started work on an extension of the Monon Trail to bring it from Biddle Park into downtown.

At the same time, the community began work on a trail head located directly behind Town Hall on Ohio Street. The trail extension was completed in August, while the trail head received its finishing touches in September.

The new paved trail head has 43 parking spots and will double as parking for Town Hall staff and visitors during the week. Easy access to the Monon Trail will take users south past Biddle Park, through the Adams Township countryside, and into Westfield. In 2025, the Monon Trail will be extended north to the Hamilton-Boone County line, completing the trail in Hamilton County 32 years after the first sections of the trail were laid in Carmel.

The community will host a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15 at 506 S. Main St. All are welcome to attend the event and stay for the community conversation hosted by Sheridan Main Street, Inc., “Monon Meets Main.”

Sheridan Main Street, Inc.’s new initiative, “Monon Meets Main,” is an outreach for all members of the community to participate in the planning of how best to incorporate the trail into the community’s wishes for Sheridan. Sheridan Main Street, Inc. is a volunteer organization working with Indiana Main Street to preserve the historic nature on the town’s Main Street and promote a vital place to live, work, and play.

Please join the first conversation following the ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. at 518 S. Main St. immediately next to the trail. The meeting is open to the public.
