Hamilton Heights had an enjoyable Homecoming on Friday, as the Huskies put together a 26-16 win over visiting Twin Lakes in a Hoosier Conference Big School Division game.

“This one feels good,” said Heights coach Jon Kirschner. The coach said it felt good because his players put a complete game together in running their division record to 2-1 for the season.

“We played a very physical football game in all three phases of the game,” said Kirschner. “We had a lot of guys step up and play very solid football.”

The Huskies got on the board first when Joey Sigler threw a 54-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Champion. That would be a continuing theme throughout the night.

The Indians tied the game in the second quarter, and that sent the game into halftime at 6-6. Twin Lakes scored on its first drive of the third period to take a 13-6 lead.

But Heights answered back. Champion and Sigler teamed up for their second passing touchdown, a 30-yard throw with 5:07 left. Logan Hickman then ran in a two-point conversion and the Huskies were up 14-13.

The fourth quarter began with an Indians field goal, which gave them a 16-14 lead. But Heights took the lead for good when Luke Davis made an interception and took it in to score from the 10-yard line.

The Huskies scored one more time with under a minute to go. Sigler threw a perfect pass to Champion, who turned it into a five-yard TD reception. That was the third touchdown for both players.

Sigler completed 14 of 23 passes for 237 yards, while Champion totaled 10 catches for 222 yards. Nick Bichey made a third-quarter interception, and Cyrus Mason was outstanding on punts, including one that put Twin Lakes inside its own five-yard line.

Heights improved to 2-5 overall. The Huskies take a break from division play next Friday, traveling to Tipton for their annual rivalry game.
