Naomi ‘Nona’ Louise Blaising

December 17, 1929 – April 2, 2018

Naomi ‘Nona’ Louise Blaising, 88, returned to her Heavenly Father on April 2, 2018.

Nona was born December 17, 1929 in Seattle, Wash. She was a beautiful, kind woman with a deep faith and a fun spirit who found an interest in everyone. She married Reverend Mark Blaising on June 26, 1954; Nona and Mark were married for over fifty years. Nona’s loving devotion to her husband continued long after his death in 2004. Nona was an important partner in their ministry in the United Methodist Church for more than 40 years, serving churches throughout Indiana. Together they lived a life of service through their Christian faith including mission work in South America and Africa. Nona introduced her family to the love of nature, including the Pacific Northwest where she was raised (Seattle and Port Angeles, Wash.) and Siesta Key, Fla.

Nona was graduated from Western Washington University (1951) and after two years of teaching third grade, bravely crossed the country to attend what is now Garret-Evangelical Theological Seminary on the campus of Northwestern University. She later received a Master’s degree from Ball State University in Special Education and worked for several groups that supported the disabled, disadvantaged and homeless (ADEC in Elkhart, Ind., Fletcher Place in Indianapolis, and Feeding the Homeless in Sarasota, Fla.). She was a member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in Indianapolis.

Nona was a loving, strong and devoted mother to her children, who modeled the Christian faith, authenticity and compassion, and she was a loving grandmother to her beloved grandchildren.

Nona is survived by her three children: Janilee (John Wimmer) Blaising, Zionsville; Stephen (Terri) Blaising, Indianapolis; and Anne (Todd) Bidelman, Tampa, Fla.; as well as six grandchildren: David Blaising-Wimmer, Megan Blaising, Nicholas Blaising, Taylor Bidelman, Erica Bidelman and Charles Bidelman. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Jonas; Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; her nephew, Jared (Naomi) Jonas and son, Desmond, Seattle, Wash.; and niece, Shalem Jonas, Seattle, Wash.

Preceding her in death was her granddaughter, Kathryn Blaising-Wimmer, and her husband, Mark Blaising.

A worship service celebrating the life of Nona Blaising will be held at 11:30 a.m. on April 5, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 2051 Monument St., Noblesville, with visitation prior beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at 1 p.m. the following day in New Haven, IN at the IOOF Cemetery.
