American Legion KV Elliott Post 67 Commander Tom Deshon and Shirley Kinkead recently presented Sheridan Public Library Director Kim Riley a check for $1,500 from the Legion’s Veteran Memorial Fund.

In 1969, veteran Jim Kinkead created the fund by recycling cans to raise money to purchase war and historical books in memory of local veterans. The Sheridan Public Library has purchased numerous books throughout the years from the monies received from the memorial fund.

The American Legion’s mission statement is to enhance the well-being of America’s veterans, their families, our military, and local communities through its devotion to mutual helpfulness. The American Legion’s vision statement is “The American Legion: Veterans Strengthening America.”
