In a night celebrating educational innovation and dedication, Sheridan High School teacher Jill Cali was honored with the Excellence in Dual Credit Instruction President’s Award for Hamilton County by Ivy Tech Community College for her work as a dual credit instructor in Education Professions.
The accolade was bestowed during Ivy Tech’s third annual President’s Award for Excellence in Dual Credit Instruction dinner and awards ceremony, held in Franklin, Ind.
The event honored 19 educators from across Ivy Tech’s campuses, each recognized for their exceptional contributions to dual credit instruction. Dual credit programs allow high school students to earn college credits, bridging the gap between secondary and higher education and providing a head start on college coursework.
Jill Cali was selected as the Hamilton County Ivy Tech honoree, standing out among her peers for her remarkable teaching methods and her commitment to fostering an engaging and inclusive learning environment. The implementation of innovative instructional techniques was an important criterion for selection.
“Ms. Cali’s approach not only captivates students but also encourages them to take an active role in their education,” Sheridan High School Principal Rick Davis said. “We are so pleased that Ivy Tech also recognizes her dedication to excellence.”
Cali’s dedication to respecting student diversity and her attentiveness to student perspectives have also been pivotal in her success. She has consistently shown a deep understanding of the varied backgrounds and experiences her students bring to the classroom, creating an inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued and heard.
Cali said of the recognition, “This award is truly an honor. As part of the smallest school district in Hamilton County, I am proud of our growing Education Professions program and am excited to continue my work in preparing students to become effective, passionate educators.”
The President’s Award for Excellence in Dual Credit Instruction is one of Ivy Tech’s most prestigious honors, recognizing educators who not only excel in teaching but also profoundly impact their students’ educational journeys. Each campus of Ivy Tech Community College selects a dual credit instructor of the year, who is then celebrated at this annual event.
During the ceremony, Ivy Tech President Dr. Sue Ellspermann praised the awardees for their invaluable contributions to education. Attending the dinner with Cali were Davis, as well as Superintendent Dave Mundy.
Jill Cali’s recognition at the ceremony underscores the significant role dual credit instructors play in shaping the future of education. Her passion for teaching and her innovative approach continue to make a lasting impact on her students and the broader educational community.
