Students from Hamilton County schools participated in Wednesday’s National School Walkout Day to honor victims of the recent Parkland, Fla., school shootings and to advocate for gun control.
The Noblesville Schools administration reported that approximately 700 students at NHS, 400 at Noblesville East Middle School and 200 at Noblesville West Middle School chose to walkout at 10 a.m. as part of the national initiative. Other NHS students chose to participate by being involved in empathy activities, discussions and writing.
Approximately 400 students at Hamilton Southeastern High School reportedly left classes to participate in the walkout.
At Carmel High School, students walked out of class and into the fieldhouse for 17 minutes, a minute for each of the Parkland shooting victims. Some students carried poster size photos of the Florida shooting victims.
