Marla Ailor, candidate for Washington Township Trustee, is seeking election in the upcoming primary election on May 8.
Marla has lived in Westfield for almost 20 years in the home that her grandparents built in 1965. She resides there with her husband Kurt and son Kohl.
“I consider the opportunity to serve our community a privilege. It is my sincere hope that those clamoring for a change in our local government make it to the polls to cast their vote,” said Ailor.
As trustee, Marla will prepare a Strategic Plan that uses real data for Washington Township. She plans to return the township office to a management style that receives input from both the Township Board and Parks Advisory Council rather than perfunctory attendance.
“I believe the 2010 Strategic Plan was delivered in a format that better suits the needs of the Township, its residents and parks. It is more specific and aligns with the Westfield-Washington Comprehensive Plan. It is significantly important to me to meet the needs of the township first and address the wants of our community second,” explained Ailor.
During her residency Marla has served as the PTO President for Monon Trail Elementary School in the Westfield-Washington School District, is an active and lifetime Auxiliary member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post, member of the American Legion Auxiliary and committee member of the Westfield Intermediate School PTO. Ailor worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce – Census Bureau during the Westfield Special Census in 2015-2016. Previously, she was employed by Dr. Steven Loman as the general manager of his multi-location optometry practice for 10 years with locations in Indianapolis and Carmel.
Ailor enjoys a rural lifestyle with her family and hopes to be an independent voice of the people. She believes in grassroots government and that her history of volunteerism and participation in the community will allow her to produce awaited township improvements. She considers herself a fiscal conservative and believes that there are other sources of available income outside of our taxes.
Ailor concluded, “The Township Board is here to govern the township finances and the trustee’s job is clearly outlined which includes administering township assistance, providing fire protection and maintaining township parks, just to name a few of the duties. The responsibilities are far more than being involved on boards and proclaiming action. A four-year term requires specific and concrete production in a limited amount of time.”
