Dine out, stroll the Carmel Arts galleries Saturday

Live music will fill galleries throughout the Carmel Arts & Design District during the March 10 Second Saturday Gallery Walk. The Gallery Walk, sponsored by IU Health North Hospital, takes place from 5 to 9 p.m. Dine at one of your favorite local eateries then stroll through the beautiful new exhibits at nine of our galleries. Begin your evening by picking up a Scavenger Hunt Clue Sheet at All Things Carmel for your chance to win great prizes.

Special gallery exhibits will be featured throughout the Gallery Walk including:

  • Basket weaving is one of the oldest crafts. Bev “The Basket Lady” Larson has made it an art since 1988. “It is my love and passion. My styles and creativity have evolved but the passion has never left,” said the Lafayette weaver, who also makes brooms of all kinds, creates functional and decorative pieces that are intricate and in vivid colors. Don’t expect the usual from The Basket Lady. Look for interesting basket embellishments, such as deer antlers for a handle. Her demonstration during the Gallery Walk at the Indiana Artisan store (111 W. Main St., Ste. 120) will fascinate all ages; her work will please the most sophisticated tastes. While you’re talking with Bev, be sure to get a sample of the tasty and fresh Just Granola bars. Maker Clayton Ramer will be sampling them in the store during the Gallery Walk as well. (111 W. Main St., #120)
  • Barcelona is a city of famous architecture, boundless culture and art everywhere you look. A recent trip to Barcelona yielded a series of photographs of some of the amazing architecture, art and cityscapes seen through Marie Reamer’s camera lens. This exhibit will be presented in the front gallery of Art on Main for the month of March.  The exhibit of HDR (high dynamic range) color photographs have been printed by the artist on canvas, giving the artist’s impressions of this amazing seaside city. (111 W. Main St., #140)
  • Silver in the City will host A Couple Cooks for a book signing and a meet and greet. Alex and Sonja are a local couple who run a food blog and podcast and have released their first cookbook. They will be meeting and greeting from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. during the Gallery Walk. (111 W. Main St., #150)
  • Hoosier Salon has something different for you this month. Off the Wall & On the Pedestal, our special exhibition for March, uses the entire space of the gallery – not just their four walls. We are featuring over 50 sculptures, vessels and objects by seven incredible Indiana wood and clay artists. Jan Boettcher, Barbara Crockett, Cindy Cwi, Clay Foster, Tom Unzicker and Mark Waninger will all be on-hand proudly showing their beautiful woodturnings, rosemalings and ceramic pieces. (22 N. Range Line Road)
  • The art students from Orchard Park Elementary will be presenting Inspiration Is All Around Us at the Carmel Arts Council Children’s Art Gallery. This year the students began their art lessons with an inspiration provided by their Art teacher, Mrs. Yoon. These students were inspired by the artist, by a children’s book, different artworks, nature, history, culture or just a “scribbly” line. This exhibit asks our visitors to guess the “inspiration” for their art. The Gallery Annex will showcase all new art from the students of Carmel, Clay and Creekside Elementary and Carmel High School throughout the month of March. The CAC’s Community Art Exhibit will feature the first place winning art entries from their “Spring Art Contest”. (40 W. Main St.)
  • CCA Gallery is highlighting the fantastic work of Arnaud Charil, Kelly Jenkins and Lisa Vanmeter, three of their accomplished artists, this month at the gallery. Stop, shop and be wowed. (111 W. Main St., #135)
  • Soori Gallery features paintings, bronze and acrylic sculptured works by leading American and international artists. Featured sculptors include Michael Wilkinson, Frederick Hart, Jerry Joslin and more. (33 E. Main St.)

Activities taking place during the February Gallery Walk include:

  • Free caricatures and face painting by Custom Eyes Designs (Sub Zero Ice Cream, 111 W. Main St., #130)
  • Enjoy musical entertainment throughout the District from Emma Hedrick and the Main Street Jazz Band, Diana Davis and Molly Jones.
  • Be a part of the Scavenger Hunt that will lead you to find select pieces of art or items of interest in each of the participating galleries and businesses. Begin the hunt inside All Things Carmel (110 W. Main St., #104). Your completed Scavenger Hunt clue sheet will enter you for a chance to win one of several great prizes sponsored by Carmel Health and Living during the Gallery Walk, including:
