Fishers had some representation at Sunday’s Hoosier Basketball Magazine Top 60 Senior Girls Workout, thanks to Toni Grace.
Grace was among the five Hamilton County basketball players that participated in the annual event, which took place again this year at Heritage Christian. To be mentioned among the top 60 senior girls in the state was a big honor for Grace.
“I thought it was an honor to come here, play with all the top talent and just to meet new people,” said Grace. “It was a great experience to come play with them.”
Grace played on the Blue Blazers, where she was teammates with a girl that she had played against many times in high school: Noblesville’s Emily Kiser. The Blue Blazers also contained high-level talent in Pike’s Angel Baker and Frankton stars Destyne Knight and Sydney Tucker.
“It was good because we’ve created a lot of great relationships and realized that most of these girls are really nice girls, and we’re all the same and nobody’s different,” said Grace.
Grace has committed to play basketball at Davenport University, which is located in Grand Rapids, Mich. Davenport went through some significant changes during the 2017-18 season, as it recently moved up to the Division II level from NAIA, joined the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and completed its first season under new head coach Rick Albro.
“I really liked the coach and what he’s trying to do with the program,” said Grace. “I think this will be a really good experience when I get there.”
Of course, Fishers was a good experience for Grace as well. She began playing varsity late in her freshman season, then was a mainstay on the Tigers team for the next three years. Grace averaged 15.2 points per game in her senior season.
“I had a really good time,” said Grace. I’m really glad that I got to meet the coaching staff and everybody around, like all my teammates and everything. It was really a great experience to play with those girls.”
