Sheridan pushed one of the top teams in Class 2A to the wall on Friday.
The Blackhawks gave a battle to No. 4-ranked Frankton at the Eagles’ gym before falling 56-54. Frankton led 21-19 after the first quarter and 34-30 at halftime, but Sheridan fought back to tie the game at 42-all heading into the fourth period. The Eagles outscored the ‘Hawks 14-12 in that final quarter.
Sheridan was led by Ange Gnamkey, who scored 20 points. Austin Hunter drained four 3-pointers on his way to 15 points. Jesse Kolb started for an injured Nick Burnell and played tough, grabbing 11 rebounds. Gnamkey pulled eight rebounds.
The Blackhawks finished their regular season 11-11. They will now await the winner of a Tuesday first-round game at the Lapel sectional, and it could be a re-match: Frankton will play Monroe Central. Sheridan will play the Tuesday winner at 6 p.m. Friday in the first game of the sectional semi-finals.
