Firefighters were dispatched at 10:47 p.m. after a resident across Geist spotted heavy flames coming from the structure and called 911.

Upon arrival of the first engine, the structure was fully engulfed with flames. Over 35 firefighters battled the blaze, as well as the ensuing woods fire located behind the residence. Additional homes beyond the woods were a concern with fire extension; however, firefighters were able to contain the fire without additional spread to other buildings.

No injuries were reported, and no one was living at the location. Due to the home being set back from the road and the lack of hydrants in the adjoining neighborhood, multiple engines were used to establish water supplies and to extend handlines into the wooded area.

Firefighters remained on the scene early into Tuesday morning extinguishing hot spots.

Investigators returned to the scene Tuesday but cause and origin may take weeks to determine. Investigators will work with insurance companies to determine the dollar loss of the structure, which was a complete loss.

Fishers Department of Fire and Emergency Services thanks the following departments for their assistance: Fishers Police, Carmel Fire, Noblesville Fire, Hamilton County Public Safety Communications, Fishers Fire Corps, and Duke Energy.
