Thanks to Turn the Page Books, 149 N. Walnut St., Westfield, local author Matt Hay’s new book, Soundtrack of Silence: Love, Loss, and a Playlist for Life, took center stage at Basile Westfield Playhouse, 220 N. Union St., last Saturday afternoon.

According to Turn the Page Owner Jamie Degler, the book signing and author presentation drew approximately 75 people, including newly-elected Westfield Mayor Scott Willis.

The Reporter first wrote about Hay in November 2020. Hay is a lifetime music lover who went on a quest to memorize as much of the music he loved as possible when he began going deaf. For the last 20 years, Hay has lived with an auditory brainstem implant (ABI).

You can read our original article about Hay’s journey, how he has adapted to the ABI technology, how his love of music led him to compose a soundtrack for his life at this link.

MacMillan Publishing calls Hay’s book, “An inspiring memoir of a young man who discovered he was going completely deaf just at the moment he’d fallen in love for the first time.”
