The Sheridan wrestling team began its season last Saturday at the Cloverdale Invitational.
The Blackhawks went 1-4 for the event. Sheridan beat Indianapolis KIPP Legacy 39-12, then fell to Covington 37-36 (on a tiebreaker), Shelbyville 65-12, South Putnam 54-18 and Cloverdale 54-30.
Two Blackhawks won their weight classes with undefeated records. Trai Fitzgerald went 5-0 at 132 pounds, while Carson Ney also was 5-0 at 120 pounds. Ryker Ream was 4-1 at 165 pounds and Carsen Aleman went 3-2 at 285 pounds. Pablo Mendez (at 138) and Jackson Aleman (at 175) were both 2-3, while Isaac Sutton was 1-1 at 106 pounds before getting injured.
