This Saturday morning you can join the Cicero Kiwanis for breakfast and a potentially life-saving safety presentation from Sergeant Bill Clifford of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
As one of his duties, Clifford helps train his fellow officers and – at events like the one this week – members of the community on how to respond to the threat of an active shooter.
From 7:30 to 9 a.m. on Saturday at Red Bridge Park, 697 W. Jackson St., Cicero, Clifford is presenting a short version of CRASE: Citizen Response to Active Shooter Events. You can learn what you can do to protect and defend yourself in an emergency situation.
According to Kiwanis member Emily Pearson, who has already attended CRASE training classes with Clifford, “It’s something you hope you never need to know, but at some point, you might need this training.”
According to Pearson, one of the most important things she has learned from this training is to have a plan of action in the event you are even in these situations.
Clifford told The Reporter this weekend’s presentation will be a briefer version of his active shooter awareness training, focused more on information than application due to the time available at the Kiwanis event.
