Jim Probst, vice president and general manager of Carmel-based BraunAbility’s Commercial Division, has been appointed to the Carmel Advisory Committee on Disability. He was appointed by the City Council to fulfill the term left vacant after Wendy Kiefel stepped down.

Probst will serve until the end of 2023 and will then be eligible for reappointment by the Council.

Probst has been involved in wheelchair accessibility since the early 1990s when he began working for a company that built wheelchair-accessible vans. In 1999, he founded his own manufacturing business in Kalamazoo, Mich., which was purchased by BraunAbility in 2011.

In his current role, Probst oversees the commercial business that encompasses wheelchair-accessible vehicles, wheelchair lifts and ramps used in school buses, cutaway shuttles, minivans, motorcoaches, taxis, and autonomous vehicles. He spends significant time engaged in global transportation activities. He moved to Carmel in 2021 with his wife and two children, who are now attending college in Indiana.

BraunAbility’s global headquarters moved to Carmel in 2019, followed by the Global Innovation Lab, which was built in 2020.
