Sheridan students find career opportunities through summer employment program

In its sixth year, Sheridan Youth Summer Employment Program (SYEP) provided a unique opportunity for 12 Sheridan High School students in July.

The program is designed for students to learn more about their potential career interests in various business and economic sectors while also engaging in community service in the Sheridan area. Students who successfully completed this three-week program received an hourly wage for their work, gained valuable work experience, built positive relationships with their peers, and gained personal satisfaction for a job well done.

This program was made possible through Sheridan Youth Assistance Program’s (SYAP) vision for youth and grants received from The Arthur Dean Family Foundation and The Crosser Family Foundation.

The participating non-profit businesses involved this summer included: Good Samaritan Network, Teeter Organic Farm, International Disaster Emergency Service, Dave and Meg Pickett, Sheridan Fire Department, Sheridan Police Department, Sheridan Community Schools, and Sheridan Youth Assistance Program.

The following businesses and representatives welcomed students to learn more about career opportunities: Beck’s Hybrids, EMC Precision, Little Eagle Creek Valley Farm, IMMI, Ivy Tech-Noblesville, The Pursuit Institute, Riverview Health, Westfield Steel, and WorkOne of Hamilton County.

The Arthur Dean Foundation was founded in 2016 with the intent to support, center and uplift the organizations, leaders and grantee partners making a difference for youth and families. It is the organization’s belief all youth should have access to opportunities, experiences, and relationships that allow them to discover who they are, develop the abilities needed to shape their own lives, and learn how to engage with and contribute to the world around them.

The Crosser Family Foundation was established by Janet R. Crosser and the late Richard H. Crosser in 2001. The Crosser Family Foundation, a fund of the Hamilton County Community Foundation, is dedicated to improving the lives of youth and their families in our communities by providing them with everyday needs and opportunity – setting them up for success, so they will grow to be healthy, responsible, active citizens in our community.
