Hamilton County Councilor Fred Glynn announced Tuesday that he would seek a second term on the Council. Glynn, whose District 1 includes almost all of Carmel and the sparsely populated western edge of Fishers, pointed to the improvement of county government functions and balanced budgets to show that the two missions can be carried out simultaneously. “It is a false narrative that we have to choose between good government and fiscal responsibility,” Glynn said. “My first term proves you can do both.”
Among improvements to the County, Glynn pointed to parks, public safety and recreational opportunities. “I proudly supported efforts to build the Keystone Parkway flyover, expand the judicial center and the creation of new parks and facilities like the Koteewi archery range,” Glynn added. “I have also steadfastly supported the sheriff’s office and the brave work they do every day.” Glynn also touted the fact that these improvements came while maintaining a fiscal outlook that few counties share. “Each of my first four years on the council we passed a truly balanced budget. We are the most fiscally sound county in the State,” Glynn continued. “I told the voters in my district that I would not raise taxes or go into debt – and we didn’t do it.”
Glynn has not been afraid to make waves when necessary to protect the interests of taxpayers in his district. He has repeatedly refused to even entertain tax increases and has fought to keep the county’s budget in the black. He has also fought against special interest and party insiders when he felt it was necessary to protect the interests of his district and the public, sometimes causing pushback from his own party.
“I ran for County Council to bring more accountability for our citizens’ tax dollars, which I have done and will continue to do – regardless of which party is advocating the irresponsible spending,” Glynn stated. “I analyze every spending proposal that comes before me to see whether it represents a good use of the tax dollars my constituents work hard to bring home,” he added. “I don’t make decisions based on what politicians want, I make decisions based upon the long-term interests of our community.”
