Dear Editor:

Home buyers often need to choose between Carmel and Zionsville. Both are quiet, well-to-do suburbs.

One factor could help buyers decide.

In Zionsville, the median household income is $141,546, and no one on the city payroll makes more. Indeed, the mayor gets just $130,267 a year.

In Carmel, where the median household income is $119,778, a total of 99 people were paid more. Indeed, the mayor gets $159,000 a year.

You can verify those figures by consulting the U.S. Census Bureau’s QuickFacts on the two communities and Indiana Gateway’s website listings for Employee Compensation Reports.

Carmel lists 31 pages of employees but Zionsville, just seven.
