The city of Carmel and Mayor Jim Brainard invite the public to join city officials, contractors and business stakeholders to a ribbon cutting of the completed 96th Street and Keystone Parkway interchange. The event will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 30 at Tom Wood Ford, 3130 E. 96th St., Indianapolis.
In 2016, the city of Carmel embarked on a $28.7 million project to improve the safety and mobility at one of the worst-rated intersections in Indiana, the 96th and Keystone signalized intersection, situated just north of Interstate 465. After years of planning, preconstruction and utility relocations began in 2018, the bulk of construction took place in 2019 with the goal of completion by the end of the year.
Despite many obstacles that were overcome by Reith-Riley Construction and American StructurePoint, this goal has been achieved. Some work will continue through the rest of the winter months, and when the weather is more advantageous, crews will return to finish certain weather-dependent items such as the final layer of asphalt, permanent pavement markings, landscape features, and painting of the bridge structure.
