Indiana First Lady Maureen Braun announced on Wednesday a major $500,000 donation from the CenterPoint Energy Foundation as part of her fundraising initiative for Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Indiana. The event was held at the Indiana State Library.

“Early access to books and learning benefit Hoosier kids throughout their lives,” Braun said. “I’m honored to lead this work to support childhood literacy and am so grateful to CenterPoint Energy Foundation for their generous donation to foster a love of reading in Hoosier kids around our state.”

At the event, Mrs. Braun spoke about her passion for childhood literacy and read to Hoosier kids from The Little Engine That Could, a favorite of her own grandchildren. The event also featured a special appearance from Llama Llama from the beloved children’s book Llama Llama Red Pajama.

“Helping children build strong reading habits from an early age is one of the most meaningful ways we can support future generations,” said Mike Roeder, CenterPoint Energy’s Senior Vice President of External Affairs. “We’re proud to continue investing in programs like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library that make books more accessible to families. We appreciate First Lady Braun’s commitment to early childhood literacy and are pleased to help expand access to books and reading opportunities for young Hoosiers.”

Braun has been hosting story time events at local libraries, talking to kids about the joy of reading and fostering a love of books. She is spearheading the effort to fund Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Indiana funded through a public-private partnership.
