Westfield employees complete supervisor training through Ball State

Five employees with the city of Westfield have been recognized as certified public supervisors after completing coursework through the Bowen Center for Public Affairs at Ball State University.

Public Works Director Jeremy Lollar, Assistant Public Works Director Angela Smitherman, Senior Planner Kevin Todd, Fire Marshal Garry Harling and Senior Project Manager Adam Essex received the certification at a ceremony on Tuesday.

“I’m very proud of our employees for participating in this meaningful program,” Mayor Andy Cook said. “The lessons learned through this coursework will assist them in bringing greater value to their service to our community.”

The public supervisor designation is the first phase in a two-year public management program. Several of Westfield’s employees will continue on for the second year of training. After completing the required 300 hours of coursework, these individuals will be recognized as certified public managers, a nationally recognized distinction.

Westfield has been involved with the certified public management program since its first class in 2010.
