The Hamilton Heights baseball team won the Scottsburg Invitational Saturday with two dominant performances.
The Huskies won their first game by beating host Scottsburg 19-1 in five innings. Noah Wallace had four hits, including two doubles, batted in two runs and scored three more. Gabe Reel knocked in three hits, also getting two doubles, and totaled two RBIs.
Reese Wills drove in four runs with two hits, while Max Wahl had two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs. Austin Sauerteig scored three times and batted in two runs.
Heights kept the momentum going in the championship game, cruising past Jennings County 6-0. Reel hit a three-run home run, then got an RBI single. Sauerteig also had two hits. Sam Fulton went six innings for the win, striking out four. Huskies coach Matt Wallace called Fulton “dominant,” and also credited center fielder Max Wahl and first baseman Sauerteig with making big plays when Jennings County had runners in scoring position.
“We really came to play today,” said Wallace. “We were strong up and down the line up and were have to string multiple hits together. Our pitching was excellent again from start to finish.
Heights begins Hoosier Conference play this week, traveling to Western on Tuesday, then hosting the Panthers on Wednesday.
“This was a great weekend to hopefully build momentum into conference play,” said Wallace.
